Mechanical & electrical diagnostics and repairs
Mobile fault-finding and repair, island-wide. We test and trace before anyone replaces a part — which is usually the difference between a bill and a very large bill.
Diagnostics first
Find the fault, then fix the fault
The most expensive repairs in boating are the ones that started with a guess. An engine that will not start, an alternator that will not charge, an intermittent trip, a temperature alarm that comes and goes — these are electrical and mechanical engineering problems, and they respond to proper testing.
We come to the vessel with test gear, work through the system logically, and tell you what is actually wrong and what it will take to put right. If the economic answer is to replace rather than repair, we will say so.
- Island-wide mobile attendance — we come to the boat
- Diesel, petrol, sterndrive and outboard experience
- 12V/24V DC and 110/220V AC marine systems
- Six-month guarantee on all labour carried out
Mechanical
Starting and charging faults, overheating and cooling systems, raw-water and heat exchanger service, impellers, fuel systems and filtration, injection and lift pumps, exhaust and water-lift systems, belts, mounts, alignment, gearbox and coupling issues, controls and cabling, servicing and oil changes.
Electrical
Battery banks, charging and split-charge systems, alternators and regulators, shore power and inverters, distribution and breaker panels, corrosion and bonding, galvanic issues, lighting, pumps, instruments, navigation and communication equipment installation, intermittent fault tracing.
Typical jobs
What owners call us for
“It cranks but will not fire”
Fuel delivery, air, compression and electrical checks in sequence until the cause is identified.
“The temperature alarm keeps going”
Raw-water circuit, impeller, heat exchanger, thermostat and exhaust checked as a system.
“Batteries are flat every morning”
Parasitic drain testing, charging output, battery condition and wiring integrity.
“Something smells hot”
Connections, loads and cable sizing checked before it becomes a fire.
“There is a vibration under way”
Alignment, mounts, shaft, coupling and propeller assessed together.
“Nobody can find it”
Intermittent faults traced methodically, with the test results written down.
Questions
Repair FAQs
Do you charge a callout fee?
Attendance is quoted before we travel, so you know the cost of getting us to the boat as well as the cost of the work. Nothing is added afterwards without your agreement.
My engine will not start — what do you need from me?
The make and model, roughly how old it is, whether it is cranking, and what changed before it stopped. A short video or voice note on WhatsApp is often worth more than a long description.
Do you work on outboards as well as diesels?
Yes — diesel inboards, petrol inboards and sterndrives, and outboards. Work has covered Cummins, Mercury Marine and Yamaha power among others.
Can you find an electrical fault that nobody else has?
Intermittent electrical faults are the speciality of an electrical engineer, not a parts-swapper. We test and trace rather than guess, which usually costs less overall.
Broken down in Barbados?
Send us the vessel, the location and the symptoms on WhatsApp. Urgent breakdowns are prioritised and emergency callout can be arranged.
