Why owners call us

An engineer who surveys, and a surveyor who can actually fix it.

Most marine surveyors write the report and walk away. Most mechanics never see the whole vessel. Capt. Troy Benn has spent forty years in mechanical, electrical and HVAC engineering, is a Fellow of the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers & Ship Surveyors and of the International Association of Marine Consultants & Surveyors, and holds an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate. He has run boats as well as repaired them.

  • Findings explained in plain English, with what is urgent and what can wait
  • Experience across Cummins, Mercury Marine and Yamaha power
  • Comfortable with pleasure craft, sportfishing boats, charter cats and the local fishing fleet
  • Six-month guarantee on all labour carried out

How it works

From first call to signed-off job

1. Tell us the vessel

Make, length, engines, where she lies and what is wrong — by phone, WhatsApp or the quote form.

2. Scope and price

You get a clear scope, a price or day rate, and a realistic date. No surprises added later.

3. We attend

We come to the boat with the tools and test gear. Survey, diagnosis or repair, done on site wherever possible.

4. Report and follow-up

A written report or job sheet, photographs, recommendations by priority — and a guarantee on the labour.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Do you come to the boat?

Yes. We are a mobile operation and work island-wide — Bridgetown and the Careenage, Shallow Draught, Carlisle Bay, Port St Charles, Port Ferdinand, Oistins and the south and west coast anchorages. Tell us where the vessel lies and we will come to it.

How quickly can you attend a breakdown?

Contact us by phone or WhatsApp with the vessel, the location and the symptoms. Urgent breakdowns and vessels on a schedule are prioritised, and emergency callout can be arranged outside normal hours.

Will an insurer accept your survey report?

Survey reports are written to the format underwriters expect — vessel particulars, scope and limitations, findings, recommendations graded by urgency, and a valuation where requested. If your underwriter has a specific template or requirement, tell us before the survey and we will work to it.

We have just crossed the Atlantic — can you help before we move on?

That is a large part of what we do. Barbados is the first Caribbean landfall for many boats and crews arrive with a defect list. We can meet you on arrival, work through the list, and get you sailing again.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes — a six-month guarantee applies to all labour carried out.

Need a surveyor or an engineer on the dock?

Tell us the vessel, the location and the problem. You will get a straight answer on what is involved, what it costs and when we can be there.
